October Monthly Meeting Change

RBCA regularly scheduled monthly meeting will NOT take place Thursday, October 4, due to a very important meeting that is presently scheduled on that date: The Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) Public Meeting for Rockaway Study with Revised Recommended Plan. This public ACOE meeting for Information & Comment will take place: Thursday, October 4 at Rockaway Waterfront Alliance RISE Center, 58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd, Far Rockaway (Arverne) NY 11692 (Schedule: Welcome & Poster Session: 6:00 – 6:30 pm / Presentation: 6:30 – 7:00 pm / Comments, Questions and Discussion: 7:00 – 7:45 pm / Second Poster Session & Wrap Up: 7:45 – 8:15pm).  We encourage ALL to attend this very important meeting.

Additionally, we would like to alert you to two further happenings coming up very soon in October:

Saturday, October 6: RBCA Volunteer Planting Day, to complete RBCA / Partnership for Parks Grant beautification project.  At 10:00am, we will meet at Beach 86th Street & Shorefront Parkway (south side of SFP, just west of B86 Concession building, near the two lifeguard structures situated there), for installation of RBCA/Partnership for Parks garden (perennial landscape).  All are welcome at this volunteer event, at which we will be PLANTING.  Tools & gloves will be supplied, but you are welcome to bring your own small garden tools & gloves.  Please dress for digging and handling a variety of large & small plants.  Depending on the number of volunteers, estimated completion time: 1PM.  Also, we welcome you to bring your own reusable thermos or bottle of water.  This event will take place rain or shine.  In the event of EXTREME weather, we will update morning-of by email with latest details.

Sunday, October 7: Rally on the Steps of City Hall.  At 12:00pm noon, members of the Rockaway community & other concerned advocates will gather on the steps of City Hall to bring attention to the issue of the Summer 2018 Beach Closures in the heart of Rockaway Beach, RBCA focus area.  A group from RBCA plans to leave on the 10:30am Ferry from B108, headed to downtown Manhattan.  We invite you to join us as we advocate for a plan from the City of New York and NYC Parks to address the erosion concern, potentially through interim sand replenishment, to safely open the impacted beaches not only now, but through the 2019 summer beach season & beyond.

As always, we the Executive Board are available for questions, and look forward to seeing you at some or all of these noteworthy upcoming events, as all directly impact Rockaway, the surrounding community, and those from far & wide who enjoy all that the peninsula has to offer. We will resume with a regular monthly meeting on Thursday, November 1 (details and agenda forthcoming.)
